Speaking at the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival on 8 March 2019, the leader of the Australian Labor Party, Bill Shorten pledged that if he is elected Prime Minister then in the first week after his election he will ring the Prime Minister of Britain and demand that the Parthenon Marbles be returned to Greece. Many have dismissed this as just political campaigning aimed at the Greek vote and that may be correct. It is nevertheless encouraging however that a political leader in Australia is talking about. the issue. See the short video of Shorten's speech below.
