Remnants of Empire

The Sydney Morning Herald today published a letter to the Editor by David Rush of Lawson, NSW. In the letter Mr Rush says that even if the Parthenon Marbles were acquired legally by the British Museum “the current owners aren’t protected if the original acquisition whether by Lord Elgin or the Ottomans, was illegal“. He goes on to say: And then there is the moral question; they have nothing to do with British Culture. They are simply an example of British imperialism in the past. Does the UK want to promote that?”
